Any body of water without chemical conditioning becomes, over time, a living environment, supporting the life of two kingdoms: the Plant kingdom (algae and other aquatic plants) and the Animal kingdom (bacteria, protozoa, insects, fish, etc.).

Environmental conditions

It also happens that environmental conditions influence and affect the balance of this ecosystem (fertilizer run off, for example), to favor the development of one kingdom over the other.

Very often, in aquatic environments shaped by humans, it is the Plant kingdom that is favored, with the explosion of algae, cyanobacteria and invasive aquatic plants. This imbalance will favor in time eutrophication of the water body.

Control methods

Two methods have been developed for the control of algae and cyanobacteria.

The first consists of using commercial bacteria to set up a competition between the Animal kingdom and the Plant kingdom for the same nutrients.

With a metabolism greater than that of algae, Bio-STAR’s commercial natural bacteria will fix nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) more quickly, depriving the algae for the same essential elements to their growth.

A judicious dosage of Bio-STAR Aqua+ or Aqua-L and Bio-STAR MD+ allows you to introduce a natural control to restore a balanced environment. Our specialists will guide you in developing your treatment program.

The second method is to use an ultrasound device. The resonance frequencies used lethally damage the membranes of algae and the air vesicles of cyanobacteria.
