Effective control methods for large-scale invasive aquatic plants are virtually non-existent. The use of aquatic herbicides is prohibited in Canada, leaving few possibilities for homeowners and lake associations.

Aquascreen®
Aquascreen® is therefore presented as an approved simple and quick solution. Made from a fiberglass weave coated with PVC and treated against UV rays, Aquascreen® is an authorized method of covering, just like burlap. Its application and impact are very localized, and it requires minimal maintenance. Flexible and light, Aquascreen can also be moved the following year to other locations to control other sectors.

Unlike geotextile which trap gases from decomposition, Aquascreen® apertures allow gases to escape freely. These holes are small enough to prevent plants from growing, but large enough to allow gases to escape. Heavier than water, it sinks easily to the bottom. However, it is preferable to anchor or weigh it down. It can also be cut, and the pieces attached together with grommets or sewn, for coverage as needed.
Aquascreen® does not deform and can very well be used for a beach. Aquascreen® is very durable (more than 10 years) but will require regular maintenance (sweeping) in an environment rich in suspended matter.
Installation
Aquascreen®can also be installed on uneven bottoms. No more muddy beaches, private banks, marinas or ponds infested with invasive aquatic!
Aquascreen® is ideally installed in spring in the absence of vegetation. For summer installations, it is preferable to remove the plants beforehand, but not necessary.
Procedure
It is very important not to cover Aquascreen® with sand, since it will allow unwanted plants to recolonize.
